Who is the.desigu?

Well let me answer that quesion with a sentence.

the.desigu is that that jon jackson. How so? You ask. Well it’s simple, the.desigu is a freelance graphic design company based out of glenpool, oklahoma (near tulsa), there’s currently only one employee, the that jon jackson.

Where did your name desigu come from?
Well, back on the 16th January 2002 I was looking for a new domain to replace the domain that I let expire, for various reasons, the most influencial being somebody guessed my uber-secure password (I believe it was ‘bob’) and redirected my forum to a porn site. So I got mad and deleted my whole website. (Which was actually making money by selling shirts on cafepress.com… Back in the early 2000’s that was quite a feat) also i was trying to “grow up” because i was dating my now wife Danielle, and most of the stuff on my website was remenants of my highschool days about aliens and oompa loompas, and I even had a club called “PLU’s” - pathetic losers unanimous - Wow. I sure wish i still had that site… Oh well. I don’t. In case you’re wondering what the site was, it was bobthealien.com (The first record Archive.org has of it is June 15th, 2000) Can you imagine? All of the great domains that were still available, and i chose bobthealien.com?… I could have had so many other domains… at one point I registered b0g.com in may of 2001 through that company where you could register domains for free and point them other places.

Anyway - the reason I ended up going with desigu.com in 2002 was I was just done with my freshman year of college and I decided I needed a new domain name before I went back to school, so I was sitting in my parents living room in the middle of the day (not working) just typing in domain names to see if they were available. So since I was studying Advertising/Public Relations in school I decided i wanted to go with a variation on the word design. so obviously design.com had been taken for quite some time. (since 13-jul-1993 to be exact) So I started playing with other letters to see what I could come up with.

here are some that I remember checking (and when/if they were registered then)

• d3sign.com - 03-Feb-1997
• d35ign.com - *was available*
• desi6n.com - *was available*
• desigu.com - *was available*

So I started typing a couple of those and some other ones that I can’t remember,  to see which was the easiest to write.
I didn’t even think about the “u” version until I typed in the desi6n.com and noticed that the “n” was also an upside down “u”

I remember it was a big internal debate between “desi6n.com” and “desigu.com”  but eventually i decided it was easier to keep from having to reach for the “6″ key - at least for me, I always have to look down to see where it is.

so, that’s how I came up with the name desigu.
